“Our membership ought to include all who suffer from alcoholism. Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover. Nor ought A.A. membership ever depend upon money or conformity. Any two or three alcoholics gathered together for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation.” -Tradition Three (Long Form)

“Each Alcoholics Anonymous group ought to be a spiritual entity having but one primary purpose – that of carrying its message to the alcoholic who still suffers.” -Tradition Five (Long Form)

“Unless there is approximate conformity to A.A.’s Twelve traditions, the group… can deteriorate and die.” -Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, page 174.

A.A.’s Traditions suggest that a group not be named after a facility or member (living or deceased), and that the name of a group not imply affiliation with any sect, religion, organization, or institution.

Registering Your Group with General Service

If your group is newly formed, please allow time to establish yourselves before making decisions about registration or participation in the wider service structure of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Once your group is ready, you may choose to become a registered group and have the ability to participate in General Service matters through an elected General Service Representative (GSR), or through the District Committee Member (DCM) in the GSR’s absence.

Becoming part of the General Service structure helps connect your group to District 1, Area 15, and AA as a whole, ensuring that your group’s voice is represented in decisions that affect AA at the district, area, and conference levels.

For more information on what this entails, or for assistance with registration, please contact centraloffice@aapinellas.org

Please add in the comments sections if your group wishes to be registered to AA as whole and receive a group number.
